Moving House

Tan Pin Pin’s first independent short Moving House (1996) draws from her own family’s exhumation of her great-grandparents—a “moving” that is literal, emotional, and spiritual. First screened at the Goethe-Institut Singapore in 1996, the film follows a family journeying from ancestral ground to a new resting place, revealing how redevelopment reshapes rituals of care, grief, and belonging. It later became the seed for her award-winning 2001 remake.
