This folder contains a selection of typewritten poems composed by one Singapore’s pioneers in the field of Malay literature, Masuri bin Salikun or better known by his pen name, Masuri SN. He was active from the 1950s up to his passing in 2005. His first poetry anthology, Awan Putih, was published in 1958; he would continue to regularly write and publish his poems since then, even as he held on to a full-time job as a Malay teacher and later on principal of Tanah Merah Besar Primary School. This selection of poems which he composed between 1961-1962 would eventually be published in 1963. Throughout his life, Masuri SN wrote more than 1,000 works of poetry and literary essays. He was also awarded the Bintang Bakti Masyarakat (Public Service Star) in 1963, the SEA Write Award for Malay poetry in 1980, the ASEAN Cultural Award for literature in 1995 and the Pingat Jasa Gemilang (Meritorious Service Medal) in 2000.
