This coin commemorates the 25th anniversary of the World Toilet Organization (WTO) in 2025. The WTO was founded by Singaporean entrepreneur Jack Sim in 2001 to improve global sanitation conditions. That same year, he inaugurated World Toilet Day on 19 November. His decision to focus on toilets and sanitation was driven by the recognition that poor sanitation affects billions of people worldwide, yet this remains a taboo subject that receives insufficient attention from governments and international organisations. Through these platforms, Sim has worked tirelessly to break the silence around toilet issues using his signature humour and advocate for improved sanitation as a fundamental human right. Sim's impact has been profound and far-reaching. His advocacy led to Singapore tabling its very first independent resolution at the United Nations (UN) on 24 July 2013 titled “Sanitation for All”. This was passed by consensus and led to the unanimous adoption by 193 UN member states of 19 November as the designated UN World Toilet Day, bringing global attention to the sanitation crisis.
