Trinket boxes made of silver, including with additional niello or gold adornments, were popular and practical accessories particularly for the wealthy and nobility in the Malay world, some of whom might even commission personalised boxes to their preference. These could include the addition of calligraphy, relief etching or even request for specific trending designs and styles. For the less wealthy, cheaper materials could take on the form of brass with less elaborate engravings. Such trinket boxes are generally oblong and used to store jewellery and other accessories.
