These decorative pillow ends or muka bantal are made of silver, either with or without gilding. They would have been sewn through the holes dotting their respective circumferences, to pillows or bolsters at either end. Often, these muka bantal were made in pairs, although there are instances where a pillow or bolster might only have one such silver ends. Common shapes for such muka bantal include rectangle, elongated oval and hexagon, and are often enhanced with repoussed floral motifs around a central roselle. Such decorative elaboration was common for use in the wedding chambers or among affluent members of the Malay nobility.
