This is a brass plaque presented by the Singapore Engineering Mechanics Association (Xing Zhou Ji Qi Hang 星洲机器行) that features an image of Dr Sun Yat Sen. The Singapore Engineering Mechanics Association was one of the early trade associations set up in Singapore. Founded in 1928, the association consisted of skilled artisans and mechanics. The plaque marks the association’s seventh anniversary which was celebrated at Empress Restaurant (Huang Hou Jiu Lou 皇后酒楼). The restaurant was known as one of the ‘Big Eight’ restaurants in pre-war Singapore.
