This is a photo of the Tan family outside their family home in Kampong Shi Hua, Seletar. Until the late 1970s, numerous rural communities existed on the outskirts of Singapore. As more residents moved into HDB new towns, and more land was appropriated to develop these new towns, rural communities slowly ceased to exist.
