Between the 1950s and 1982, bicycle owners in Singapore had to register their bicycles with the Registry of Vehicles. A bicycle identity card and license plate were provided for bicycle owners to prove ownership and prevent thefts. The bicycle plate would be attached to the bicycle, typically onto the rear fender.
