This is a set of three drawing plans for an ensemble of furniture pieces designed by Singapore architect Tay Kheng Soon (b. 1940) while he was pursuing his Diploma in Architecture at the Singapore Polytechnic between 1958 and 1963. It was a personal project he undertook for the matrimonial home of his wife's cousin, a semi-detached house in the vicinity of East Coast Road. These drawings display Tay's technical skills as a young architecture student, highlighting his design intent and creative vision for this project. Details such as the direction of grain on the wood dining table top, and the articulation of joinery for the feet of the tables, reveal a meticulous degree of planning and invention, approaching each furniture piece almost as if it were a building project.
