Silver Hammer from the 1916 'Our Day' Auction

This is a silver hammer used during the ‘Our Day’ fundraising auction held in Singapore on 18 October 1916. 'Our Day' was an annual fundraising event during the period of the First World War created and organised by the British Red Cross in 1915. Fundraising activities for the Red Cross’ ‘Our Day’ Fund took place across the British Empire such as in Singapore. The ‘Our Day’ Auction was organised by the Straits Chinese British Association in support of the war effort and was held at the Raffles Cambers (Katz Bros Building) on 18 October 1916. This silver hammer was used during the auction's proceedings and was then also put up for auction. It was purchased by Mr Lim Peng Siang for $5,000.
