The India General Service Medal was a campaign medal awarded to soldiers in the British and Indian Army who served in India and neighbouring countries. The medal was awarded for military campaigns starting in 1852 and was discontinued in 1895. This medal was awarded to soldiers who fought in the Perak War from 1875 to 1876. The Perak War started following the murder of the British Resident James W. W. Birch. Soldiers from the British and Indian Army invaded Perak, capturing Sultan Abdullah Muhammad Shah II, deposing and exiling him to the Seychelles.
