Gift of Antonio and May in loving memory of Leonie Theresa Daroya Koenitz.

These Lee jeans were owned by Leonie Koenitz, who was one of the first fashion models trained in Singapore at Joan Booty and Ruth Warner's Mannequin Training and Charm School, which opened in 1956. Flared-leg jeans, or bell bottoms, are a style of pants that feature widened legs from the knees (or calves) down to the bottom hem of the garment. While this style of trousers was highly fashionable in the 1960s-1970s, they are thought to have originated in naval uniforms in the nineteenth century. This pair of flared jeans feature a paisley design, a motif of Iranian origin that was introduced to the larger European market in the 18th and 19th centuries, and which was revived in the 1960s.Lee is an American denim and fashion brand. It was founded in Salina, Kansas, in 1889 and named for its founder Henry David Lee. Known primarily for denim workwear, the brand expanded in the 1970s to cater to fashion cycles. The earliest advertisements for Lee brand products appeared in Singapore newspapers in the mid-1950s, with Chotirmall's department store (41-43 High Street) putting out advertisements for Lee Rider jeans in the Straits Times in 1956.
