Stencilled text on the wall of Istana Kampong Gelam

This stencilled sign was discovered during the renovation works at the entrance of the Malay Heritage Centre in 2024. Elements within the sign, accompanied with external evidence, points to 1990 as the most probable date of the installation of the stencilled sign by the Land Office.The text in the stencilled sign reads: Crown Land Property | Chapter - 382. | This Land shall not be assignable or | transferable or liable to be attached or sequestrated or | levied upon for or in | respect of any debt or claim whatsoever. | Dat e – 23 Dec 1897.
