Gift of Antonio and May in loving memory of Leonie Theresa Daroya Koenitz.
This jacket from Isetan was owned by Leonie Koenitz, who was one of the first fashion models trained in Singapore at Joan Booty and Ruth Warner's Mannequin Training and Charm School, which opened in 1956. Istetan's first Singapore store opened in Havelock in 1972, becoming the first Japanese department store to open in Singapore. It then expanded with other branches across the island, including Liat Towers, Wisma Atria, Shaw Centre, Parkway Parade, and Tampines Mall. This corduroy jacket reflects the range of apparel and fashion carried by the department store, which also included cold-weather clothing for both an increasingly affluent domestic market inclined to travel as well as international tourists.
