This Basile blouse was owned by Leonie Koenitz, who was one of the first fashion models trained in Singapore at Joan Booty and Ruth Warner's Mannequin Training and Charm School, which opened in 1956. Helyett was an Italian fashion house active throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Several of its collections were designed by Luciano Soprani, who is also associated with fashion houses Max Mara and Gucci. Helyett was stocked by Man and His Woman, which was founded by former Straits Times journalist Judith Chung. The straight cut, boxy proportions, and back flap details on this piece is reminiscent of workwear, such as painter's jackets. This piece is representative of a design interest in the dialogue between functional workwear and high-end fashion.
