Gift of Antonio and May in loving memory of Leonie Theresa Daroya Koenitz.

This Giorgio Armani jacket was owned by Leonie Koenitz, who was one of the first fashion models trained in Singapore at Joan Booty and Ruth Warner's Mannequin Training and Charm School, which opened in 1956. Giorgio Armani was born in the town of Piacenza, Italy, in 1943. He started as a window dresser and clerk for a department store, La Rinascente, in Milan, and later designed menswear for Nino Cerruti. Armani set up his eponymous store and company in 1975 focusing on high quality ready-to-wear. Giorgio Armani was brought to Singapore in 1977-78 by the multilabel fashion boutique Man and His Woman, which was founded by former Straits Times journalist Judith Chung. The jacket is executed in cupro, which is type of rayon fibre with a silk-like finish.
