Gift of Antonio and May in loving memory of Leonie Theresa Daroya Koenitz.
This blouse from Wanko was owned by Leonie Koenitz, who was one of the first fashion models trained in Singapore at Joan Booty and Ruth Warner's Mannequin Training and Charm School, which opened in 1956. Wanko was launched in 1987 by businessman Johnny Cheng Chung Man, then-chairman of the Veeko Group, a larger chain of womenswear in Hong Kong. The brand focuses on workwear for women. This pleated polyester top reflects a new and modern aesthetic that emerged in the late twentieth century, which was made possible with new kinds of engineered synthetic textiles associated with fashion designers such as Issey Miyake.
