Gift of Antonio and May in loving memory of Leonie Theresa Daroya Koenitz.

This jacket was owned by Leonie Koenitz, who was one of the first fashion models trained in Singapore at Joan Booty and Ruth Warner's Mannequin Training and Charm School, which opened in 1956. Metro Grand was a high-end department store that opened in 1978 in Lucky Plaza, and was part of the wider Metro chain of stores that originated in Surabaya in the 1950s opened by Indonesian businessman Ong Tjoe Kim. The stores carried several European luxury brands such as Givenchy, Charles Jourdan, and Yves Saint Laurent in the 1970s, and throughout the 1980s and 1990s, it was known for retailing local and regional designers, introducing them to the larger consumer market.
