Although Imelda Cajipe-Endaya is recognised for her large-scale, collage paintings with strong socio-political themes, her lesser-known prints produced during the 1970s show her embrace of abstraction. Vividly coloured prints like “Kayamanan ng Lupa”, “Neon” and “Tugtog ng Banda'y Halu-halo” are marked by repetitions of loose and improvised abstract lines and bursts of colourful planes. They demonstrate the artist’s embrace of play, experimentation and rhythm in the print medium. Reflecting in 1987, Cajipe-Endaya expressed that she felt a deep responsibility to respond visually to the corruption and brutalities of the Marcos regime, admitting, "I was almost always burdened with guilt at doing abstracts."
