This is the first English printed map of Asia, derived largely from previous works by Dutch cartographers, especially Jodocus Hondius's 1623 map. This map features many beautiful stylistic choices, such as the carte-à-figure style and the decorative frieze on the top. However, upon closer inspection, we find some inaccuracies, such as the way people looked and dressed, as well as geographical mistakes. The cartographers of the time, of which John Speed is no exception, often built upon each other's work using their imaginations. As they did not venture into the world themselves, this map is actually an interesting hybrid of real world data and speculative worldbuilding.
