Junction of Jalan Bukit Merah & Henderson Road

This work demonstrates his stylistic experimentation from the 1960s till the early 1970s. It captures the sense of place and identity that are rooted in the artist’s memories of the changing Singapore that he saw in the period, from farmlands and kampongs to HDB flats and the backlanes of Jalan Sultan. Junction of Bukit Merah and Henderson Road depict the agricultural lands of Singapore. Faint impressions of many pig sties owned by different family can be seen in the upper right of the painting. The lines in the foreground of the painting demonstrate the cracked grounds that emerged after the relentless heat.
