Katagami are stencils used to create textile patterns, mostly for clothing. These stencils are made with the bark of the mulberry tree, flattened, and glued in layers with persimmon juice to create a stiff card. Rice paste was then applied over the stencils to create a design on the fabric that would resist the dye.
