This sarong is decorated with a buketan (bouquet) motif with birds and butterflies. The dark blue background of the kepala (head) features floral patterns. It is signed “Oeij Soen Kiam”, the younger brother of Oeij Soen King, whose wife, Nyonya Oeij Soen King (1871–1950), was the first of three generations of a family of batik makers from Pekalongan. Oeij is the historical Dutch spelling for Oey, a Chinese Indonesian surname of Hokkien origin.
