The monumental hanging mobile A Rising Moon Through The Smoke (2022) is inspired by cascading works by Alexander Calder. 11 of the sculpture’s 12 ‘plate bells’ are cast from a mixture of salvaged bomb metal and stainless steel. The 10th plate from the bottom is made of cast brass from a salvaged artillery shell. This kinetic artwork moves with the flow of air and vibrations of sound. Nguyen worked with a sound healer who tuned the work to 432 Hz so that once rung with a mallet, it vibrates at a precisely calibrated healing frequency.
