These insignia are used on British Army dress uniforms to show the rank of the wearer. Three of these symbols (known as 'stars', 'pips', or 'Bath stars') denote the rank of Captain. This set of insignia belonged to Captain Bob Cheah, who left the British Army in 1969 to join the Singapore Armed Forces.
