Gift of the late Mr Yeo Cheng Kim and Madam Koh Quee Neo

Such offering dishes were commonly found in Peranakan Chinese households. This dish would have been placed on an altar and used for offering water, rice, oil, fruits, salt, flowers, herb crystals, and gemstones during prayers and rituals of ancestor worship. On special occasions such as Chinese New Year and death anniversaries of the ancestors, an offering of food and drinks will be served on the altar table and the living will perform rituals to commemorate and venerate the spirits of the deceased. Many Peranakan families have retained their Chinese religious beliefs and practices. This item is donated by the family of late Mr Yeo Cheng Kim and Madam Koh Quee Neo. It comes from the ancestral home, formerly at 22 to 25 Zion Road.
