Canister

This is a canister used for storing tea leaves. Decorated with six rectangular glass panels, each painted with a different scene, this airtight tea storage canister helps to keep tea leaves fresh and maintains the colour of the leaves, thus increasing its shelf life. Many Peranakan families have retained their Chinese religious beliefs and practices. An offering of Chinese tea, together with food served on the altar table, are presented to the gods and ancestors during festivals such as Chinese New Year and death anniversaries of the ancestors. This item is donated by the family of late Mr Yeo Cheng Kim and Madam Koh Quee Neo. It comes from the ancestral home, formerly at 22 to 25 Zion Road.
