This belt is embroidered with beads and decorated with various flora motifs. Belts like these would have been worn by Peranakan women to hold their sarongs (tubular skirts) in place. While wealthy Peranakan Chinese families commissioned silver or gold belts for wedding use, beaded and/or embroidered belts were a more affordable and equally attractive alternative for less affluent families.
