This covered box has a knobbed lid and is decorated with scale patterns in brown. The modelled knob on the cover simulates the calyx and stem of a mangosteen fruit. Covered boxes were one of the most representative type of Sawankhalok wares produced. Large quantities of ceramics were made at Sukhothai and Sawankhalok kilns for export to Southeast Asia and beyond during the 14th to 16th centuries.
