This circular plate has a scalloped rim with four cartouches, separated by trellis work, with chased decorations of birds amongst the flowers of the four seasons: cherry blossoms (winter), peonies (spring), lotus flowers (summer), and chrysanthemums (autumn). The flat base is encircled by a cavetto filled with deep round impressions and features chased decorations of two phoenixes among flowering peonies, decorative motifs frequently found in Chinese Peranakan ceramics and needlework. This plate was likely used for ritual purposes such as ancestor veneration.
