This impressive headdress is unique to the village of Solok and is worn by women during their weddings and other important ceremonies. The front panel is covered with a profusion of gold-foiled flower sprigs, and when worn, rests on top of the wearer’s head. The hinged back panel with a fringe of chains, falls to the back of the neck. The metal sheet is decorated with a kaluak paku motif—patterns of intertwining fern tendrils—symbolic of kinship. Each side is decorated with an upward facing bamboo shoot motif, which represents growth. They mirror the gonjong or horn-like roofs of Minangkabau houses.
