Made with synthetic dyes, this hand-drawn batik is specially designed to be cut and sewn into a shirt. The brown batik is decorated with repeating scenes of large flowers on stalks.Batik shirts and dresses were popular in Indonesia in the postwar era and parts of the garments were drawn individually during the production process. Around 1970, Ali Sadikin, the Governor of Jakarta, introduced the batiked men’s shirt with long sleeves as the formal attire for Indonesian men.
