This Peranakan family had two ceremonial panels; one embroidered with the qilin as the central motif, other embroidered with the pheonix and peony motifs. During festive occasions like weddings, Peranakans used various, elaborate, decorative textiles and objects for ceremonies and presentation. Early pieces of silk and metal-thread embroidery show more Chinese or Malay influences, by the 20th century, European-inspired beadwork and motifs became popular.
