This blue white sarong (skirtcloth) features a checked design, and would have been worn by a Peranakan Chinese lady with a baju panjang (a long open jacket). Such sarongs were replaced by Javanese batik (wax-resist) ones by the 20th century, as Peranakan fashion evolved.
