These patterned silk ties belonged to and were worn by Kwok Chan Kwan, and possibly his sons in the late 1940s and 1950s. Kwok was a banker who was born in Hong Kong. He worked at the Bank of China (BOC) as a manager and later, country manager in Indonesia before the war and was interned as a prisoner of war for three and a half years during the Japanese occupation. After the war, he was reunited with his family and continued to work for BOC in Kuala Lumpur, Sydney and Penang till 1952 when he joined Lee Wah bank in Singapore. He retired in 1967 and passed away the following year.
