This selendang is decorated with stylised floral and pisang tanduk ("horned banana") motifs. These motifs are arranged along vertical strips of red, with alternating bands of brown in the centerfield. The motifs on this textile were executed in the supplementary weft technique, where additional weft threads were added to create ornamental patterns above the ground weave. The selendang is a shoulder cloth with multiple uses. Women wear them either covering their heads, or draped like a sash or shawl during formal occasions. They can also be used to carry items.
