Sarong is a tube-like cloth that is sewn along its width and worn by wrapping it around the waist. Along the length of the badan are stalks of tall flowering grass towering over a row of brown grass, which together with the blue border of flower patterns, indicate the orientation of the sarong. Butterflies flit between clusters of small flowers. Each sprig is filled with small dot patterns (isen) and a palette of dark blue, sky blue and green. It is stamped with a Chinese name stamp of Gan Sam Gie. Pekalongan was an established batik-producing centre by 1860 and has often been associated with batik decorated with bouquets of flowers (batik belanda).
