This is a pair of petit-pointe slippers that would have been possibly worn by Peranakans instead of beaded or embroidered slippers. The green and cream checked slipper faces are decorated with cotton flowers. The leather sole of the slippers are stamped with the mark “Singapore”, denoting its provenance. Petit-point work and cross stitch work was often used as design inspiration for Peranakan beadwork makers. Many people engaged in beading accumulated a collection of petit-point and embroidery swatches.
