This is a score of the song “Mother and Child” from a new musical version of the play Emily of Emerald Hill. It deals with the very important relationship that the title character, Emily Gan, has with her son. That relationship becomes the catalyst for many events which occur throughout the play. Stella Kon is an award-winning Singapore playwright whose most important work was the 1983 one-woman play, Emily of Emerald Hill. She is also a descendent of two prominent Peranakan philanthropists, Tan Tock Seng and Dr Lim Boon Keng.
