Illustrated London News employed engraved images as illustrations and worked with draughtsmen and engravers whose works were not identified. This particular engraving was an illustration to an article about Singapore’s cession to the British East India Company by the Sultanate of Johore in 1824. It probably shows Raffles riding alongside the Sultan in the elephant carriage.
