This is a shoe box that was used to store ladies’ shoes from Cortina Department Store. Cortina Department Store opened at Colombo Court in North Bridge Road in 1973, covering a total of 6 floors. A decline in the retail market in 1983 led to the downsizing of the Cortina store when it moved to Funan Centre in early 1985. The shoes could have been bought in the 1970s, when a wide variety of brands, both local and foreign, were made available to consumers in Singapore. The late 60s-70-s saw the emergence of a new breed of shoppers who had a greater disposable income.
