The Marina Mandarin Hotel was part of the Marina Centre development. The ambitious project was conceived as a “city-within-a-city”, consisting of a cluster of three luxury hotels, the other two being the Mandarin Oriental and Pan Pacific Hotels, as well as a giant shopping mall, the Marina Square. Built in March 1984, the Marina Mandarin was the first of the three hotels to be completed but was officially opened only in January 1987, owing to delays in the construction programme of Marina Square. The hotel is presently managed by the Meritus Hotels & Resorts, which was previously known as the Mandarin Singapore International Hotels Group.
