While the theme of Haw Par Villa revolves predominantly round Chinese legend and folklore, there are other themes on display as well, such as the Thailand section as seen in this photograph. The stance of this Thai dancer is characteristic of the ancient Indian dance, which is not surprising, as the origins of Thai culture and arts can be traced back to India. Originally called Tiger Balm Gardens, Haw Par Villa was built on Pasir Panjang Road in 1937 by Aw Boon Haw, who had the intention of educating the public about Chinese culture.
