A ‘selendang’ or shoulder cloth is a narrow piece of rectangular cloth worn over the shoulder. It has been suggested that the abstract floral motifs in the centrefield are stylised double wing symbols of garuda, the mount of Vishnu in Hindu mythology. Triangular ornamentation which was popularised by its usage on prestigious Indian trade cloths, frames the centrefield design. Gold thread was woven in supplementary weft against a ground weave of weft ikat, where the horizontal threads are tied and dyed.
