It is possible that this textile was used as a shoulder cloth. It was dyed by ‘tritik’ (stitch-resist) and ‘pelangi’ (tie-dyeing), where sections of the cloth were sewn or tied respectively to resist the colour of the dye. The zig-zags and dots at the fringes were achieved by the pelangi method while the white central field and the leaf motifs at the border were done by tritik. These methods were inspired by Indian trade cloth, and were found mainly in coastal parts of Southeast Asia like Java, Bali, Palembang and Kelantan.
