The islands of Savu, Roti and Ndao represent a cohesive group in terms of textile production although there are distinctive differences amongst them. Indeed, today weavers on Ndao produce much of the ikat cloth used by the Rotinese, who themselves only rarely practice the art of weaving. This particular cloth is from Savu and is patterned with bold floral scrolls, which may be an influence from Indian mordant-dyed chintzes or perhaps a Malay source.
