The motif exhort the working class to participate in "Struggle against selfishness and repudiate revisionism" and use pens as weapons to defeat “class enemies”. Aggression was encouraged by such images on various types of propaganda material such as this porcelain teapot, which showed the workers piercing the enemy with their pens. Two other slogans, "Revolutionary great criticism" (see 1997-04838) and "Grasp revolution, promote production" (see 1997-04846) have also been included. The latter slogan came about in 1966 after the central authorities grew concerned that workers’ involvement in revolutionary activities was affecting their economic productivity.
