The silver case belonged to a POW, Sergeant William Neil. It is engraved with the letters of the Third Battalion of the Straits Settlements Volunteer Force (SSVF) and the emblem of the Penang & Province Wellesley Volunteer Corps. The SSVF comprised civilian volunteers who undertook some form of military training and participated in the defence of Malaya and Singapore during the Japanese invasion.
