This photograph shows an early image of Haw Par Villa, located along Pasir Panjang Road, before it was completed with all the displays. Originally called Tiger Balm Gardens, Haw Par Villa was built in 1937 by Aw Boon Haw. A prominent businessman and philanthropist, Aw had set up the gardens with the intention of educating the public about Chinese culture.
