The entire surface of the ewer is engraved with animals – from elephants and hares to various types of birds – set against dense floral and foliate motifs - a style characteristic of Deccani work. The general form of this ewer can also be found in contemporaneous Safavid Iran, underlining the links between Deccani sultanates and Iranian counterpart. The most eye-catching feature is the dragon head spout which reveals influences from Chinese and Persian traditions where the dragon is a symbol of power and protection. Another distinctive feature of this ewer type is that the lid is located along the handle instead of the body.
